Starting at Wolters Elementary School on First and San Jose, walk east through neighborhoods, along side of Bulldog Stadium, cross Cedar, and through Fresno State Campus. Back via the same route, past Stone Soup, and to Wolters. After the walk, the three of us shared one word that summarized the experience. Two shared the word Fences. One shared the word proximity. All along the walk, we walked by many types of fences in front yards, along side walks, fencing things in and fencing things out. It would definitely feel different to grow up surrounded by fences, many with pronged tops and chain and locks. The word proximity described the close access that these neighborhoods have to Fresno State and beautiful sports facilities. One walker had worked in Mendota for many years and described how the children there were poor also but it was so difficult to transport them to a place like Fresno State.
