Saturday, May 31, start walking promptly at 8:30 from Fort Miller Elementary School on Dakota, just west of Blackstone (you can park at the school). Walk about 3 miles round trip heading north through some of Old Fig, then back (back by 9:30 before it gets too hot). The words for this walk were “Old Growth” and “contrasts”. The walk moved through old Fresno neighborhood homes with extreme care or extreme neglect. One house has a man working in his front driveway surrounded by metal artwork, it was literally a metal work museum surrounding his house. Crossing Ashlan we entered beautiful old homes, many with fences around the perimeter. Amazing yards. We walked back along Blackstone, a busy street even on Saturday morning. We smelled fast food. Walked by a massage parlor that had recently been in the news, then by distressed well kept apartments with a playground. Back by First Baptist Church with their thrift shop open.
