Starting at Lowell Elementary School, promptly at 8 a.m.(the hotter the earlier we start). Park in front of the School. (Lowell is at Divisadero and Poplar, just slightly east of VanNess). The walk will be about 3 miles, so 1 hour of walking. The words summarizing this walk were “Revival”, “Effort” and “community”. The neighborhood surrounding the Lowell school has both well kept houses and boarded up houses. There was a neighorhood block sale going on and neighbors were out in the yards and streets talking and organizing signs. We crossed under the freeway overpass of 180 with a playground right under the overpass, which seemed like a strange place for a playground. The Lowell community garden was a pleasant patch of gre. The walk through the Tower District neighorhoods was delightful with most houses showing care. We crossed the open canal, back under the overpass, past a corner market/liquor store, back to the Lowell school.
