On SUNDAY, June 22, at 7:30 a.m. Begin at Birney Elementary School at First and Cornell, the walk will head east across the canal, along McLane High School, across the 168 foot bridge overpass, through neighborhoods, along Shields, down Maple to Michigan (which has no sidewalks or bike lanes BTW), and back along the canal. Our discussion after the walk includes these comments: surprised at how nice the McLane neighborhood is. Above standards. Felt secure. Heard birds chirpping, except on overpass and along Shields. We entered county island with roosters crowing. You can feel the ‘cut’ through the old neighborhood where hwy 168 now cuts through. Walkers said this neighborhood is familiar because of doctors and dentist offices, the old Valley Children’s hospital. Noticed many homes that had home-made shade rigged, magnolia trees, many brown lawns but maybe by choice because of the draught. The walk along the canal was the most refreshing and restoring feeling. It would be won
