From St. John’s Cathedral downtown Fresno, across the foot overpass of Hwy 41, and to Roosevelt High School and wind back through Huntington Blvd neighborhoods. After each walk, each Walker shares one word to capture the essence. The words for this walk: eclectic, Gatsby, and $100,000. Eclectic – in that there were as many environments as there are people, the full spectrum. Gatsby – reminiscent of the Great Gatsby, the way things were. $100,000 – that almost every house/property could use $100,000 to make it fabulous – tree pruning, new landscaping, update sprinkler systems, paint, roofing, and inumerable upgrades inside homes that were built almost 100 years ago.
The sounds of early morning birds and the shade on the street and sidewalks felt good.
As we walked back and got closer to downtown, we moved from homes, to apartments, to condos. Getting near Hwy 41 and Holmes Park, we saw desperate people who had slept out at night, and had wagons or carts of belongings. There were man
