An early morning walk west of 99 weaving through neighborhoods of mostly single homes. Some on large lots that use to be orchards or farms out in the middle of nowhere are now bumping up against housing developments. The walkers described the overall essences of this walk with the words: holy, stillness, and surprising. We encountered special places of faith, such as the Sikh institute and the Divine Master Convent. They were beautiful, well kept, and obviously well loved places. Central High east is a beautiful campus, and there was a group of teenaged boys playing basketball on the school courts at 7:30 am. Some of the houses in the neighborhoods were neglected, but most had signs of life and care. From street to street, the houses transitioned from full sized houses to smaller houses on smaller lots with just one car garages. Getting closer to Shaw, we walked through a new housing development under construction located behind a mobile home park and behind the Sikh Institute. After walking for 10 weeks, it’s a positive sign when I see a variety of housing options (small, large, apartments, condos, etc) within one neighborhood.
