Memories and Imagination – Fulton Street – 10/21/17

October 23, 2017October 24, 2017 By fmw

Mindfulness walking is engaging all your senses, with intention, on the present moment and environment as you move through it.  This often triggers memories and sparks imagination.  That was evident on Fulton Street, as walkers shared their experience after the walk.

“My parents used to bring me down here all the time.  I couldn’t help but recall my childhood years that were spent on the Fulton Mall.”  FMWalker

Walkers described their Fulton walk experience as ‘newspaper headlines’ and describe how they imagine Fulton Street in the future.

THIS IS AWESOME!
I REALLY DO BELIEVE IN DOWNTOWN FRESNO!
REVITALIZATION HAS HAPPENED
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME
NEW BEGINNINGS
PARTIES AND ENDINGS
NEW LUNCH DISCOVERIES FOR A MONTH
GOURMET DINING
FUTURE HAPPINESS
FRESNO AWAKENS

I CAN REALLY HONESTLY SAY THAT THINGS ARE ON THE RISE.

Tree of Life Cafe begins walk of Fulton St.

THERE’S SO MUCH TO DO IN THE TOWN YOU LIVE IN.

On the morning of the much-anticipated celebration, dozens of walkers gathered in front of the Tree of Life Cafe to explore the details of the newly opened Fulton Street.  After the stroll down Fulton Street from Ventura to Calaveras, walkers gathered to share their observations, memories, and imaginings.

Walkers had the pleasure of meeting three restaurant owners/chefs.  Walkers heard the menu from Chef Ian at @thevineyardrestaurant, met chef Naomi R Hendrix at Raw Fresno, and were hosted by Chef Carolyn Ocheltree at Tree of Life Cafe.

Walkers shared these thoughts about the walk experience:

“Walking Fulton St. on opening day with a community of people, all united in our intention of mindfulness–deceptively simple, incredibly fulfilling stuff!” Red

“I must say I was a little nervous about walking with you guys. I have scoliosis, a bad knee and my 2 kids were with me. Your pace was perfect not too fast not too slow lovely walk.   The interesting thing was my son who thought it was “dumb” before we went was actually the most into it; kneeling down for photos and wanting to use the real camera!”  Heather

Young mindfulness walker sees the details.

“A beautiful day for Fresno Mindfulness Walkers to enjoy Fresno’s newly renovated Fulton Mall before the rockin grand opening tonight! At every turn there’s beauty! And to top off the walk, found excellent food and drink at Los Ponchos.”  Wendy

“My mom was on the volunteer committee at the grand opening of the original Fulton Mall, and now I’m here for today’s celebration. Things come around full circle.” FMWalker

“Fulton Street isn’t an event, it’s a new mindset for Fresno.”  Lori

“I’m feeling so grateful for your initiative and guidance! Fresno Mindfulness Walks are inspiring me to “touch life more deeply and authentically.”  Red

UPCOMING WALK: Saturday, January 29, 2022, 10 a.m.

Fresno Mindfulness Walks will lead a Saturday morning walk on January 29, 2022, beginning at 10 am. at 271 N. Glenn Ave., Fresno, CA 93701 (the home of Craig Scharton).

The walk will be about 3 miles, at a stroll to medium pace, occasionally on uneven ground, and take about an hour and a half. By walking mindfully and without talking, we will experience the Lowell neighborhood in new ways. At the conclusion of the walk, we’ll gather back at Craig’s yard and spend a few minutes talking about what we discovered about ourselves and the neighborhood.
Walks are free and require no RSVP. Look for the Facebook event to share with your friends. For email notifications, sign up in the yellow bar at the top.

How FMW works —

Fresno Mindfulness Walks are weekly opportunities for people to walk together for a 4 mile route through a different Fresno neighborhood each week. Walkers practice active mindfulness by attending to the sights, sounds, smells, feelings.  Walkers do not talk to each other on walks, but we do greet people we meet along the way.  The walk location and exact start time are posted just a few days in advance. All walks are free, require no RSVP, and anyone is welcome to join one walk or many. To learn about upcoming walks, you can sign up for a weekly email in the yellow bar at the top of this website and/or LIKE and follow the FMW Facebook page.

To learn about the routine that begins each walk and read some of the resources that have inspired FMW, check out the resources page.

Weekly walks are about 4 miles and take about an hour and a half. Walks are at a medium pace, often on uneven ground, and sometimes take longer than expected because walkers see themselves as curious travelers lingering to observe or going around a different way.
